Waiting

My tentative plan is to keep working throughout her treatments but that’s just a guess at this point.  The potential range of treatments and the time commitments are vast.  There are so many things that need to be organized that cannot be attempted with any accuracy until we know her treatment plan.  The waiting is killing me.

All of you that know me, knows that I am a planner, sometimes to a flaw.  How many of you remember the dozens-and-dozens of pages of scripted and organized notes that I used to compose Satomi and my wedding?

“…Cue MC.  Bride and Groom enter stage left.  Spotlight to couple.  Prewarn guests along path A to pull-in chairs to allow couple to pass freely.  If path A impeaded, take path B.  MC to have spare microphone ready at foot of head table.  Couple to pause on dance floor.  Using microphone, verbally acknowledge Parents-Limit to 30 seconds.  Enter head table stage from right (North)… blah, blah, blah…”

For all of you that don’t know me, everything that I am passionate about gets that sort of attention-especially those things that I had never done before.  Safe to say that I have never organized and executed a cancer treatment plan and there isn’t much more in this world that I could be more passionate about.

As I said before, the waiting is killing me.

My girls

Here’s a photo of my girls just before bed tonight.

Satomi looks pretty good, huh?  You gotta love Kandice’s hair.

A Monday morning

Monday mornings are always difficult.  The girls (and their Parents) typically don’t nap on weekends so everyone is cranky and that doesn’t promote family bliss.  This past weekend was probably a bit more strenuous than others.

Satomi’s doing so well, I decided to go to work.  I had several things that have pending deadlines so I thought I’d try to make some progress before any treatments start.

I text messaged Satomi throughout the day to keep tabs on her and remind her of medication.  I also spoke with people from the Neurosurgeons office to confirm an operation follow-up visit and our Oncologist to check the status on the Pet-CT scan.  They are working with our insurance and the specialized labs to schedule the test.

We had previously scheduled an appointment with the Oncologist on this Thursday as a follow up to the original breast cancer.  To take advantages of this eery coincidence, we are trying to get the Pet-Ct done beforehand.  The Oncologist also ordered various blood tests also in an effort to focus her attention on any potential cancer sites.

I got home a bit earlier than usual and thought Satomi may want to come with me to pickup Kandice from preschool.  I found her soundly sleeping and couldn’t bring myself to waking her.

Our Satomi is Home

I apologize that I didn’t have any updates for you throughout the day.  I had left my laptop at home.  Satomi had so many flowers and snacks and stuff that I decided to forgo the computer for an extra hand of carrying capacity.  I attempted a Blackberry update but that was way too difficult with my fat fingers.

I brought our Satomi home at 4:00pm today and we are all so happy.  Kandice and Jillian won’t leave her alone.  It’s nice to see them together again.

Satomi went straight up to bed and only suffered a small bit of light-headed-ness when using the stairs.  I stood watch over her the entire time so there was no concern.  She didn’t have any complaints about the wonderfully cleared, cleaned and organized bedroom.  I organized the flowers she received around the room and stocked our upstairs frig (left over from our first dance with chemo) with drinks, snacks, and goodies.

I helped plan her med’s.  For those that know of Satomi’s Dad’s medical problem, this should seem a bit ironic.  Satomi is normally the one who figures out med’s-counting, seperating, and organizing pills into little boxes, double checking dosages, cutting oversized tablets into partials, etc.  Of course I didn’t do any of that… but her needing my help is ridiculous.

I helped Satomi wash her hair.  She can’t feel the rear portion of her scalp so washing without wetting the wound was impossible.  I was worried that she would lose her balance in the shower but all was fine.  She hadn’t taken a shower since Wednesday night so it made a huge difference in her comfort.

She’s now relaxing in bed and is watching TV.   Today was a good day

Her Room Is Ready

Sorry I didn’t do a day-end entry. I went home a bit early to get our room ready for Satomi’s return. My unreasonable wife demanded clean sheets before she would some home. Ha!

I wanted to Thank Satomi’s family for having Kandice & Jillian over last night. The girls love sleeping over. It allowed me time to get things in order around the house. It sounded like they had a great time playing in the pool and causing trouble.

Satomi is doing just fine this morning. Her “digestive” issue uh…”flushed” itself out this morning. She’s in no pain so everything is peachy.

Kandice, Jillian, and the rest of the family are all coming to visit shortly so Satomi is napping. We decided to have the girls visit Mommy here to expose them to the “hospital” environment. Given the situation, it seemed the prudent thing to do.

We are very eager to go home.
