I almost forgot I actually had a 3rd event to go to last Saturday night-my wonderful Cancer Support Group Holiday Party at Tina’s house! How could I forget my greatest support group of friends! I hope you all had a great time! We’ve been together for over 3 years now and I’m truly grateful for all your friendships! I am so glad you all have weathered this cancer thing well in your lives – now just keep me in your prayers and I’ll be good to go! I can’t wait to see the pics! Take care and hope to see you in the new year!! Or sooner!!

Today was pretty easy – thank goodness!! My whole being is now in getting myself better mode! I have to plan in my head when to take my meds, when to eat cuz some of my meds I have to take an hour before food and some with food so I have to be real cognizant about it! I started back fully on the detox diet, taking those supplements (more like vitamins and minerals) and hoping they don’t gag me again (which so far has been ok – I think it was a function of the insane dizziness) but I still don’t have an appetite but I’m trying my best to eat as much healthy stuff as I can!! I’m still waiting for my hair to start falling out – the roots feel tingly and kinda hurt when I touch them -maybe I’ll just have Sean shave it off tomorrow before he leaves for Florida for a convention out there! We’ll see! I can no longer hear anything (just some occasional noise) and reading lips r more challenging now that the double vision has worsened and my acuity has worsened as well (my vision is blurry even with contacts or glasses! So I really have to rely on the pen/paper or the dryerase board – e-mail and text is always good – and by the way, thanks for all your e-mails!! They really do brighten up my day! Good night and hope everyone has a great week! It will be interesting!! Take care!
Love alwayz,
Satomi

Today, we had 2 events, both of which I did not go to since I didn’t feel that great! Staying home wasn’t much fun but I think I would’ve been more miserable at either party so why be the party pooper – so I stayed home – getting some e-mail and text scoops about both parties which was nice but obviously not enough to really know how the parties went. Now, just waiting for Sean and the kids to come home. Today was a pretty uneventful day – just got some great e-mails from long distance friends that really made my day! Thanks! If u r reading this blog, I want to know and tell u thanks for the support! E-mail me @ satomi.okamoto@yahoo.com if u don’t want to publish a comment/reply on the blog for everyone to see! My e-mail is pretty private! Have a great rest of the weekend!

Today was my 5th and final day of the week to have the whole brain radiation! This morning, Irene and Steve came by with their laptop so we can spend some time together – short but sweet – and because it was just the 2 of them (no kids) it wasn’t overwhelming at all. I think the steroid helped a little to calm my symptoms down. We just “talked” – as they typed away on the laptop, I spoke verbally so it was great! We spent about 45 min “chatting” when I had to leave for my radiation appt. Again, no problem with the treatment but I am anxious now for my hair to fall out again! I just don’t want it to come out all over my body while taking a shower – that was the worst feeling last time – at least I will have a break from radiation this weekend and will be looking out to see if my hair starts falling out! All I’ve been doing is resting and I know it’s a side effect but is it better for me to rest and keep myself safe or to challenge my symptoms and move around? The PT in me says to move around but the patient in me wants to rest! The dilemma! As a PT, I really haven’t treated oncology patients, so it’s hard. Have a stroke, brain injury or spinal cord injury, I know exactly what u need! But oncology is so different with all the diff meds, where the primary and/or secondary cancers are, etc. I actually have to learn new stuff! We touched upon it during PT school but really you dive into it on the job! Well, I guess I’m going to have to get back on the job! But I need someone to guide me!

As treatment days go, today was better. Satomi says it was a 2 or 3 out of 5 stars. Keep in mind that 1 star is her “new normal” dizzy partially-deaf self. In any case, it was good to hear that she felt better. I guess the Decardon is working.
