Took Her Away

by on March 14, 2011

The RN this morning warned me not to watch her being packed up and rolled away. She said to would be very upsetting to see your loved one put in a body bag. She also said the handling of the body like luggage is very traumatic. She recommended everyone be in a distant room.

When the RN first arrived, she moved Satomi around some and things flopped around. All the things that we were so careful with only a day before.

That little bit upset me so I sure as hell wasn’t going to watch them load her up.

When the mortuary van arrived, I move her family into the kitchen. I stayed downstairs too.

There was a lot of movement and noises. I caught a glimpse of them bringing Satomi down the stairs wrapped in some sort of cover. She was strapped to a stretcher. The stretcher was long so they had to stand her up to go around the corners on our staircase. I saw her flop around and it really upset me. I couldn’t watch her being rolled away. I just couldn’t do it.

But before I knew it, she was gone.

Hello Sean…my name is Emiry. I have only seen Satomi (& maybe you) at Hiromi’s wedding. She did a beautiful Japanese dance performace. I do Japanese dancing too but with a different group so I was really interested in her odori. I am friends with Hiromi & Kiyomi.
I’m so sorry to hear of Satomi’s passing. She is with her Father now. My mother in law and the girls’ Auntie Sachi Sasaki are best friends. My Mom in law let me know early this morning. Then got an email from Hiromi about your website. I’ve been sitting in front of the computer for the past 4 hours reading all of your ramblings. Thank you share it with us. You are a very caring and compassionate person. Wishing you peace in your heart.

Oh Sean I am so very, very sorry for your tremendous loss.

I read your blog. You are by far her angel & you did right by making Satomi’s transfer comfortable & peaceful. You should be very proud of yourself. Your support & unconditional love & kindness made her feel your love as she moves to the other side. Now all this love can be focused on your beautiful daughters!

I have experienced this a few times so if you ever need a friend that ‘gets it’ just contact me.
I’m sending you big hugs to you. Take care. Take time for yourself when you can.
    Love, Cheryl
